This shot is that of a top perspective of Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam temple. Teppakulam literally translates to the temple pond and is mainly used for devotional festivals. The tank is connected to the Vaigai River through an ingenious system of underground channels. This was constructed by King Thirumalai Nayak.Time
This is one of my favorite drone shots. The place is close to my heart as this temple is one of my childhood favorites. Being able to get back to this spot and capture the beauty from the top perspective in the golden twilight of sunset was an amazing experience. This was taken on 2019-02-10 17:56:37 :)Lighting
This shot is that of a top perspective of Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam temple – something that most would never have witnessed, lest be captured in the golden twilight :)Equipment
This was shot with Mavic ProInspiration
As a kid, I had seen this pond often used as a cricket playing field. But when filled with water, the artificial tank makes the temple within – an island and is a sight to behold. A walk around this would take 30 minutes and would be awesome during early morning or evening times. The place is filled up with a lot of roadside shops to eat and walk with. If the tank is filled with water and the climate is breezy, you definitely would enjoy this spot!Editing
This is an exposure blending of 3 shots to enhance the dynamic range of evening twilight. The drone camera with its low dynamic range called for this kind of processing and enabled the colors on the temple doom to pop.In my camera bag
I generally travel with Canon 7D along with the Tamron Travel zoom lens and a wide-angle Canon 10-22 mm. Earlier this year moved to Sony A7III with Sony 16-35 & 24-105 and loving it :)Feedback
Being at the right place and the right time is not a stroke of luck, but a result of planning and patience ... Scouting the location and imagining how it would look from a top perspective & getting there around sunset with a drone was just the beginning. Being aware of the boat that left from the steps to the island, helped with timing the shot. but it turned out to be a great shot when the birds decided to adorn the same :)
