Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my apartment building parking lot.

Time

Around 6pm, a week prior Halloween, 2019.

Lighting

It was almost the end of the golden hour, and cloudy, so light wasn't consistent.

Equipment

Camera Canon T5i with my 50mm 1.4 canon lens. No flash.

Inspiration

I wanted to create a "scary" and sensual concept where, when people look at the photo, will think "she looks intimidating but also makes me want to get close to her" creating a hypnotized source of attraction.

Editing

Yes! I edited the photo only using Lightroom. I create a lot of detail on the eyes (to make them pop up even more since they aren't that big). I made sure that make-up looked more silky than already is. But what actually made the photo look so "dark" was the different tones of layers I added to create an ombre effect, starting darker from the corners and getting lighter to the inside.

In my camera bag

Canon body T5i. Lens 50mm 1.4. Lens 18-55mm 4-5.6. Flash Youngnuo lll. Triggers lll Youngnuo.

Feedback

This photo was mainly possible because I explained to the model the back story of the character she was representing, that help my model express those emotions and intentions through her eyes and body poses (at the beginning was a little hard because she's not a professional, but with some practice shots she felt more comfortable). I also had a mindset of the character in a movie, and ask myself, if this was an actual movie, how would I want this "scary being" to approach me?
