Thank you much appreciated🙂. I had to wait about half an hour standing in the cold for him to finally get tired of licking salt off the road and climb up. cold

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near Jasper Alberta while my wife and I were out on a last minute day trip. The goats were all over the highway so I had to wait patiently for them to climb up the rock face, this one stopped and posed for me showing strength and pride.

Time

This was late afternoon in November and wow was it cold, I had to keep my hands in my pockets to stay warm. The cold and hour long wait was well worth it for me as this is the shot I have been dreaming about.

Lighting

The time if day and cloud cover was perfect allowing me to get this picture handheld.

Equipment

Pentax K-3 with Sigma 50-500 lens

Inspiration

I visit the area a lot to hike and see waterfalls and mountain lakes. The wildlife is abundant and I'm always hoping to see them along the way allowing me time to work on using all manual settings.

Editing

I am still a beginner at post processing but I try my best, I don't want the nature photos to be over done but I do like some detail while trying to keep the softness.

In my camera bag

I decided after much comparing to go with Pentax equipment because they are designed more rugged keeping our dust and water with more seals and I like the metal body. That being said it is a little heavier than other makes. Other than the Sigma 50-500 the rest of my lenses are Pentax 15-30 F2.8, 24-70 F2.8, 100 mm macro F2.8. I have a heavy duty carbon fiber tripod with a liquid head. I manage to carry my equipment hands free using a Cotton carrier system allowing me to practice safe climbing.

Feedback

Weather-wise hope for the best but prepare for the worst because it can change in minutes and you do not want to be caught off guard an hour or more from your safe place. Remember your in the wilderness and bring Bear mace, bangers, bug spray, flash light and make sure someone knows where you are and when to expect you, safety first.
