Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Krimml waterfalls (Austria's tallest waterfall (380 m)), located near the village of Krimml, in the Hohe Tauern National Park in the state of Salzburg.

Time

We arrived the day before from the stunning Grossglockner High Alpine Road. On the day of the shooting we went early because the route to reach the highest point is 4.15 km with an altitude difference of 431 meters. This photo was taken on July 29 at 10:10 am as we returned to the starting point.

Lighting

Luckily that day there was good light that allowed to see the suspended water of the waterfall. It was easy find a suitable balance in the exposure.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 6D, with an 16-35mm f / 4 L IS USM.

Inspiration

From the road you can already see how impressive these waterfalls are. The particularly impressive location at the entrance to the valley and an extraordinary waterfall height of 380m over three stages make the Krimml Waterfalls an impressive natural spectacle. You can feel its force. They are also the world’s fifth highest waterfalls.

Editing

This photo was taken in raw format and developed with Camera Raw. Later, I used Photoshop to process it in black and white, taking Ansel Adams' black and white landscape photography as a source of inspiration.

In my camera bag

Normally, when I travel, in addition to the Canon EF 16-35mm f / 4 L IS USM, I carried the Canon 24-105 mm 4 L in my bag. I also usually carry Lee filters (ND Grads, Big Stopper) and Cullmann Neomax 240 travel tripod.

Feedback

Tips: 1-Get up early. In this way you will avoid the number of people who can be in such a tourist place as the Krimml waterfalls. 2-Put a protector on your camera if you don't want it to get wet.
