It looks to me like you sharpened the man and his chair and softened everything else? Great use of black and white. The bkgrd softening that I think I see really serves to focus my eye in on the man and his chair. Nice work and a Great shot!

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment..what I did was embed a filter over the image which I do with most of my environmental portraits that I shoot in black and white. In PS I lay down a filter and then go in to take away from my subject..tweak the fill to about 30 percent, dodge and burn and call it a day..
