Location
This photo was taken in a studio which overlooks Sandton, Johannesburg in South Africa.Time
This was taken at around sunset just as the sun began to dip below the horizon in the distance overlooking the city.Lighting
I used one fill light on minimal strength with a large soft-box to fill in the shadows just enough to create some detail. The remainder of the light is coming from the sunset.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony A7R iii with a sigma 85mm art F/1.4 lens and a godox AD600.Inspiration
The photo was inspired by a cafe art book I had looked at which featured a lot of underexposed and quite somber photography, utilising minimalism and natural light for the most part to create emotion.Editing
Yes I did, the models skin was colour corrected as well as softened using frequency separation. The saturation of certain hues were also altered minimally to accurately represent the mood of the image. Furthermore a very light amount of split toning was also used in-order to accentuate the underlying moods. In my camera bag
I always carry my Sony A7R iii which I recently got and absolutely love. I can't get enough of its features and capabilities not to mention the continuous software updates and new capabilities which are always available. Furthermore I always carry my Sigma art 85mm, Sigma Art 70mm macro, Sigma art 14-24mm and my Sigma 50mm.Feedback
Yes just pay attention to the natural temperature of the light around sunset and dawn and this will allow you to create the same tones.
