The image was captured between 10:00 am - 11:00 am in a studio located in the Chelsea area of New York City.Lighting
The lighting consisted of one Profoto B1 in a diffused umbrella and bounced of two V-Flats. This allowed us to use a large light source and keep it very soft for the beauty portrait.Equipment
For this shot it was hand held. I used my Nikon D750, with a Tamron 24-70 mm f2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was inspired by movies from the 30's, 40's, & 50's. Our model had a classic look that reminded me of actresses during this period. I wanted to emulate a portrait you would have seen during this period.Editing
The photo was originally processed in Adobe Light Room for some basic adjustments. I then transferred the image to Photoshop for the b&w conversion and final fine tuning.In my camera bag
In my camera bag I always carry my Nikon D750, Tamron 24-70 mm f2.8, Tamron 70-200 mm F2.8, & Nikon 85 mm 1.8G lenses. Additionally, I go between a Nikon SB 700 speeedlight & Godox AD200 for off camera lighting. In order to diffuse the lights I also have a MagMod MagSphere. This equipment will allow me to take on 90% of all my shoots.Feedback
I would suggest other photographers take their time to think of how to create soft lighting that would complement a model. The larger light source being diffused and bounced allowed me to have the perfect light to bring out the vintage feel that I was seeking. Quality light will server you well everytime.
