Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot at a small artisan cafe in Cochrane, Alberta. Best known for its hand crafted coffees and tea lattes, this wonderful little shop also makes a small menu of select artisan sandwiches and soups. Surrounded by local artwork, it is the perfect place to sit back, relax and take in all that is local!

Time

The image was shot around 10am so we could use the natural morning light coming in the front windows.

Lighting

This small cafe (The Gentry) was proud to use this photo when they were selected to be featured by Alberta Tourism!

Equipment

The camera was a Canon 5D Mark IV with a Canon EF24-70 lens.

Inspiration

Looking for a way to capture and suggest the concept of “comfort food”

Editing

Very little post processing, slight bump in shadows and softening of perimeter.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark IV, 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 16-35 MarkIII IIII,1DX Mark II

Feedback

Lighting and composition details and critical for food photography. What I tried to do here was infer comfort by having it shot in front of a big sofa but keeping the focus on the food.
