Behind The Lens

Location

We did the shoot in abandoned building near Swansea. We needed a place that was safe to use fire and pryos but also had plenty of space for us to comfortably work.

Time

The shoot lasted for around 4 hours, 10am to 2pm. This included set up and strike time.

Lighting

Used a single speed light with a large (120cm) dome softbox.

Equipment

Sony AR7ii and the sony 28-70mm 2.8 GM lens.

Inspiration

I just love working with fire artists and I've worked with Gemma on shoots before. So when she asked me to shoot her with her company's new "fire cube" act, I jumped at the chance.

Editing

Most of the work was done in ACR, bringing out the details in the shadows and then using photoshop to smooth the skin and colour grade the image.

In my camera bag

Sony AR7ii , 28-70mm 2.8 GM & 70-200 f4 G

Feedback

Set your camera to use rear curtain sync for the flash. Make sure both you and the fire artists have a fixed idea before you start.
