This image was taken in my garage. I stopped what I was doing to run inside and grab the camera because the light from inside the van was starting to really pop.Time
I processed this image well after it was taken (maybe 5 or 6 weeks after). When it was posted, the lighting made me think it was taken while loading the van to head to the farmers market. We load up around 5:00am. It was some time afterward that I noticed the collapsed boxes on top of the crate. This means it was taken at dusk, well after markets ended and prep work for the next day's kitchen time was finished. The boxes come home to get recycled after they are emptied.Lighting
The image is a "perfect storm" of lighting. The cool LEDs create a nice contrast to the warm-but-cooling natural light of the Sonoran desert neighborhood outside. It didn't need (nor was I prepared for) additional lighting.Equipment
This image is a handheld shot taken with my Sony a7Riii and a rented 24mm prime lens on it. Nothing else was used.Inspiration
Color and light were the initial inspiration for the image. The inside of the garage was getting quite dark and the crisp light emanating from the van really popped. Once i focused my eyes on the van, I realized the twilight sky was giving a nice contrast. The other inspiration was documenting this period of life assisting my spouse to grow their small business.Editing
Very little processing was needed for this image since I don't have a layered file for it. I certainly played with a curves layer and mask to slightly darken the area around the van. I would have boosted the sky color a bit as well.In my camera bag
I always have my Sony a7Riii body and two lenses. My favorite is the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 prime for it's ability to expand the story around subjects. I also carry a Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 telephoto zoom because a lot of my paid work is shot from a distance. Accessories include a simple light meter, extra battery and charger, remote shutter release, collapsible reflector (tucked inside an exterior panel of my backpack), grey card, and tabletop tripod.Feedback
This was a spur-of-the-moment shot. Though I was entirely focused on ending a long day, my mind was somehow attuned to its surroundings and I was fortunate to realize this and have a camera nearby.
