Location
Jasper National Park, Canada.Time
Earlier morning sunrise.Lighting
The sun was peeking out like a samurai slicing through the clouds. I did a 62 second long exposure to capture the clouds movement and the water was pretty still due to it being earlier morning.Equipment
I used my manfrotto travel, Nikon D750 camera, Tamron SP 15-30mm lens with my Nisi 10 stop ND filter attached to my lens.Inspiration
I’ve always had a interest in day time long exposure photography after seeing photos of it online. I decided to go to Jasper National Park to take Mark Jinks workshop to better my skills at long exposure using ND filters. I traveled (2,264.3 mi to Alberta Canada we’re meet up with Mark. Day one we captured photos till sunset then went to bed early to wake up to capture this sunrise photo your seeing now.Editing
I loaded my photo into Lightroom were I edited it. Then I used photoshop to remove any sensor dust spots from my image. In my camera bag
I always pack my 10 stop, 6 stop and soft 3 stop Nd filters. Those our my go to filters for day time long exposure. I have my 15-30mm SP lens always on my Nikon D750. I have extra battery’s because doing a long exposure can drain your better fast. My second go to lens is my G2 24-70mm lens, and if I see any wildlife from afar I use my 150-600mm Sigma Sport contemporary to capture the action from a safe far distance.Feedback
I check my apps such as The Photographer’s Ephemeris for the direction of the sun and to see what kind of weather to expect while out in the field. Make sure you properly fit your ND filters to your camera, and you want to use a lower iso depending on the time of day. A higher F/stop so you can use a slower shutter speed and if your going longer then 30 secs while using bulb mode. I suggest using a timer on your phone to keep track do you don’t over expose the image. Try under exposing the image first till your more comfortable in going longer with exposure time. Also taking chances like I did traveling far from home taking a workshop to better my skills with a professional photographer is always helpful.
