This was taken in full day, around 15, as it is possible to notice from the contrast between the leaves and the blue skyLighting
In general this time of the day is not considered ideal for lighting conditions, but actually this hour allows for the light to pass through the leaves and give this sharp contrast between the red colour and the fully blue skyEquipment

Momiji-gari -Japanese maple leaves hunting- is a popular and unescapable acvtivity in Japan during Autumn. Even without wanting to do that on purpose, if you happen to see the colours of maple leaves you will be naturally attracted to shoot.Editing

It really depends on the journey and photographic exit I am going to face. As a rule I carry a versatile zoom lens for all purposes photos, and this can be a wide-angle or teleobjective, depending on the mood. Then I try to carry at least one prime lens for difficult lighting conditions or just the improved touch or feeling they can give to photos, and usually I choose among 35-50-85mm.Feedback
Maples are not only to be found in Japan but also in Europe and America, otherwise you can still practice with other tree leaves in the foliage period (Autumn). You can experiment at different times of the day and lighting conditions to witness the different results on your shots.
