As we made our way up the steep 1,600 foot accent to a predetermined peak, I regretted putting in the heavy 400mm lens in my backpack. Out of shape and definitely feeling the burn from the extra weight of camera gear. We hit the peak a few minutes after the sun had dipped below the horizon.⁣

I have to admit I was a little disappointed that we had missed the last bit of light wasn’t shining on the fall leaves exploding in color. As I was panning around, searching for something to catch my eye, there it happened. Across the canyon and far below, this lone aspen appeared, surrounded by the soft triangular shapes of pines. At that moment, I forgot about the heavy breathing and was thankful for the extra weight of the large telephoto lens.
