Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken during a local Austin area meet-up of models and photographers. This particular event was held at "The Craftsman" , E 5th St. Austin ,Texas

Time

Shot in the evening, 10:30 P.M. indoors

Lighting

Lit with LED panel, 45 degrees off front face of models. I positioned myself 45 degrees of models opposite of lighting.

Equipment

Shot with Canon 5DII, 24-105 zoom @ 24mm, f5 @ 1/10, ISO 1600. Handheld

Inspiration

As the models posed for other photographers, who were mostly shooting front facing, from my vantage point the scene felt like a 60's/70's crime drama featuring a hip female duo. Calling for attention and eye contact from Vivian added that extra punch to tell the story in one image. I shot from a kneeling position to give a sense of power to the models.

Editing

Black and white done in Lightroom, exported to Photoshop for dodge/burn, and touch-up

In my camera bag

my normal bag consists of a canon 5DII, 24-105f/4, Canon 50mm 1.8, 1970s Fujica 50mm 1.4 manual lens and Fujica 35mm 1.2 manual lens with an adapter for both. 2 Godox TT600,Godox Xt1 trigger

Feedback

First and best advice is always move around to find intriguing angles to shoot from. Pay extra attention to how the light falls from different directions. Shoot to tell a story and not just make a portrait. Lastly, shoot with intention.
