Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at a local nature trail with a small pond behind the dog!Time
This photo was taken midday. I was working as the photographer for a round of mini dog photo sessions to raise money for a local dog shelter!Lighting
The lighting varied in the 4 hours I was photographing at this spot. Typically, shooting in direct sunlight doesn’t work too well. But here it was beneficial to light up the dog’s beautiful eyes perfectly.Equipment
This was photographed on a Canon 80D. I used a Canon 70-200mm f/4 L lens to keep some distance from the dogs but still allow for close ups. There was no other equipment needed!Inspiration
I was inspired by the dog’s beautiful eyes and coloring, as well as his laser focus on the ball his mom was holding behind the camera! He hardly acknowledged my presence once the toy was out and was very patient.Editing
I did some basic post processing here. I lightened shadows, lowered highlights, sharpened, etc as well as slight dodging/burning on the eyes/face.In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo, I had a slightly different set up then I do now due to upgrades. When taking this photo, I had in my bag: a Canon 80D for the body along with the following lenses: Canon 70-200mm f/4, Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 24mm f/1.8. Also always having extra memory cards, batteries, cleaning supplies, and a tripod!Feedback
Connection to the animal is important in dog photography. The eyes carry a lot of emotion so try to make sure they are visible. Also, remaining eye level with your subject allows for even more connection and depth.
