This is the Empty Sky Memorial in Liberty Park, Jersey City. The day was fine but very hazy, resulting in the subtle and soft reflection. Mother and daughter wander through, hand in arm past the names of every person who died on that horrific day. The construction faces Manhattan from the Jersey shore in the exact direction of where the two towers stood before they fell on 9-11.

This is exquisite, Sal! The strong foreground with the engraved names of the faithful departed, the ghosting effect from people's reflection, the leading lines and the skyscrapers in the background make it a unique photo, worth submitting in any Rule-of-Thirds competition and one that merits the highest awards.

Wow dear friend, you give me the ultimate praise! I think what strikes me most about this shot is the mother/daughter contact whilst walking past so many of the faithful departed. I felt sad and yet noticed the respect being paid which was a beautiful feeling. Empty Sky is one of the most touching memorials ... xx

Thank you Lisa. I did not know any of the folk engraved into these walls and yet one feels a 'closeness'. Strange feeling and as you say sad but beautiful as they are being honoured :)

Thank you Joop from the bottom of my heart, I'm extremely flattered by this win because this photo meant so much to me. I stood for quite a while feeling the sadness and yet warmth of this memorial. I felt privileged to view the names of the beautiful souls lost on this day.

Thank you Kedphotography for your challenge...I'm honored this capture won the People's Choice. This is a beautiful dedication to the many lives lost and I felt the mother and daughter walking here illustrated the beauty of family and the loss suffered by so many on this fateful day.
