Behind The Lens

Location

This is at Dachstein West in the lake district (Saltzkammergut) in Austria. There is a cable car that takes you to an area for hiking and a restaurant is available for meals.

Time

This was during a late morning and afternoon hike in this area

Lighting

I wanted to capture the reality of the beauty of this scene and the light at this time of day allowed me to focus on the picturesque chalet and the beautiful mountains behind - just breathtaking.

Equipment

I was carrying my Nikon D750 with me at the time with the AF:S Nikkor 24:120mm lens.

Inspiration

This area is so beautiful and the weather was great with sunshine and clouds coming and going that everywhere I pointed my camera seemed picturesque. However, this shot to me represents Austria - the beautiful Alps and the chalet grounding them.

Editing

I did not have to do a lot of post processing on this because the light was good. I sharpened the contrast to convey what my eye was seeing and tweaked the colors.

In my camera bag

When I go on hikes with groups of people, I just take my Nikon D750. It is a heavy camera with the lens I use (about 5 pounds) and since I have back issues I have to limit my weight. Thank God for this camera.
