This is what happens when you put a photographer with a super wide angle lens, in front to a serpents tamer who want to earn his tips, in the middle of nowhere in the desert. We, me and the beast, looked each other in the eyes. Check his look...
Thanks to the backstage photos (on my Instagram page @riccardo_mantero), made by Andrea Paganini, it is possible to see where the head of the snake has arrived: Inside the hood of my lens!!! But doesn't finishes here! The snake licked the front glass of my lens to check it! And I shot it!
Technically speaking it is impossible to put in focus a subject while it is "touching" the lens, in fact the tongue is blurred, plus it is almost impossible to do a photo like this with a single shot due to the short depth of field.
In fact this shot has been obtained using the focus-stacking technique, and I had to burst my photos, moving myself in and out shortly quickly enough in order to capture all the parts of the scene in focus, according to the tamer the serpent was really dangerous, I'm happy that it was calm and cold blooded.
