Behind The Lens

Location

On the beach in front of our favorite fish restaurant in Radozda (Lake Ohrid).

Time

Photographed prior to the enjoyment of these yummies, on July 11th, 2019 at 17:41:53 hrs... a perfect time in every sense!

Lighting

Shutter Speed 1/500 s F-Number f/8 ISO ISO 100 Exposure Bias Value 0.00 eV Metering Mode Pattern Flash Auto, Did not fire Focal Length 4.5 mm

Equipment

The camerra was OLYMPUS Tough TG-2, and for good reasons, too! First, whenever my wife and me visit there, it's high chance I'll want to look under the lake surface, and a TG-series camera is more than able and willing to do so! Next, there might be a sudden weather change... and it won't stop it working and being used. And then, I'd be unwilling to grab any other camera mid-meal and with greasy fingers if the situation required - but this camera can easily be de-greased and washed, same as hands. I bet you did not consider this before! Handling the TG-2 with less than clean hands is okay, as opposed to any other camera...

Inspiration

Easy. Just look at the table in the photo! I am more than certain EVERY photographer worth their salt would want to make such photos... maybe even the "before" and "after". To me, it's inspiration enough!

Editing

Hardly any, except some cropping to arrive at this format. Hard to remember anything else that would be necessary. Oly usually takes hood care about sharpness and color

In my camera bag

For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. It is more than enough to take along whatever I want or need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car, to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. My tripod has its permanent place in the car. The vest pockets usually contain two cameras. One of those is always waterproof. Sometimes I'll add a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. Other pockets keep the spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small camera clamp which can be fixed to almost anything. In many cases this can replace a tripod. The vest has deep pockets for longer lenses, and these usually hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate - if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always pack about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. Much can be improvised with these if need be. Recently I made it even easier, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; one variable-volume McKinley. In the Outdoors, simplicity and comfort are my most important aspects!

Feedback

Be there, have a camera, and DO! What else could I say? But remember the part about cameras and greasy fingers, and look up the Oly TG-series. These can be applied in many situations where you wouldn't want to involve any dry-land-only cameras!
