It started with a normal telephoto. Then, and all by itself, the idea for the slightly weird finalization appeared.
The workflow:
First I cropped it somewhat to get at this composition.
I sketched-in the "cannon ball" and copied the part of the "chain" to it, so as to suggest an "escaping prisoner".
I then added a reflection point to the ball, and copy-pasted the ball to make its reflection, which I then distorted (by "Wave" filter) to look its part.
Then I applied the "Treshold" filter, reducing the whole image to shapes of black on white. Adjusting the filter retains the optimum information. Also have erased some surplus spots that served no purpose.
The final touch was the "Age" filter. It hides the imperfections left by the treshold rendering, and adds this dirty yellowish or sepia layer to the image. In the same time it hints at what might appear as a foggy morning light - say, ideal time for escaping from the "prison island".
Only... he must not fall off the board!
You can imagine the rest of the story yourself. :)
