Behind The Lens

Location

I took this while touring Havana, Cuba. Our tour bus was stuck in a traffic jam during rush hour. Although I ordinarily sit in the center of the bus while on tour, I fou8nd myself sitting in the front seat. Looking out the front of the bus, I saw a vintage rush hour traffic jam of the 50's!

Time

This was taken during the afternoon rush hour, probably around 5:30. The sun was to the left side of our bus and lit up the street and cars wonderfully.

Lighting

It was taken with all natural light which is plentiful in Cuba!

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 40D and a 50mm lens set at f/19 with a speed of 1/500. I had the ISO set at 1600 because we had just come from an indoor exhibit and I neglected to reset it ... but it all worked out.

Inspiration

Growing up in New York City, rush hour stopped traffic was a way of life for me. Seeing it with all the 1950 cars brought back vivid memories of my youth. The jumble of the electric wires reflected the jumble of traffic below. It was a glorious moment and a glorious feeling!

Editing

I post-processed this image in photoshop primarily to reduce the noise and balance the lightning.

In my camera bag

I have moved on from my Canon EOS 40D to a Canon EOS 7D. I have the following lens in my bag: EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM EF 50mm f/1.8 STM - "My Nifty Fifty"! Tamron SP 60mm f/2 Macro Lens I also carry a Yongnuo YN685 SpeedLight with a Yongnuo YN622C-TX Wireless Flash Controller, a Canon RC-6 Wireless Shutter release, and a Hoodman Hoodloupe (Invaluable asset for looking at images on camera's LCD screen on sunny days) I also carry a gorilla tripod. q

Look at what you are seeing. There is beauty in everyday things and scenes. This one had been facing me all week and then I saw it all at once! There it was. in all its splendor, facing me everyday for a week! Start looking!!
