The photo was taken at the Virginia Living Museum in the Children's Garden and Playground. They have a small butterfly area for the children and I always take pictures in the butterfly garden when we go because you can get amazing pictures of the butterflies and dragonflies, even if you are a self taught photographer.Time
I love this picture because it was early afternoon and there were so many butterflies, dragonflies and bees flying from flower to flower, never sitting still, but this one was perfectly still. It was almost like it was posing for me because I was able to get so many beautiful shots of him.Lighting
There was so much natural light when I took this picture and I wanted to capture this butterfly in its natural habitat so I decided not to do anything special with lighting for this picture.Equipment
This shot was taken with my Galaxy phoneInspiration
I enjoy looking nature pictures, and I am always trying to get macro photos of insects.Editing
I did not do anything post-processing.In my camera bag
I always pack my Sony SLT-A65V and a lot of extra batteries for my camera and a new SD card, just in case I run out of space. I alternate between lenses, but I am still learning and improving so I stick to my camera, no frills.Feedback
The best way to capture a great nature picture is simply be being out in nature. Walk around, be in, be a part of it. When you lose yourself in nature, it's easy to get great shots because you begin to notice things that you wouldn't normally notice. Take a moment to be still in nature and you'll be able to catch unexpected shots.
