Location
The photo was taken at Cardiff beach in California during sunrise just as the sun was creeping through the layering fog. It was taken in the water using a water housing to protect the camera and fins to keep myself floating while shooting.Time
Everything lined up for this image, it was shot just after sunset with the sun creeping through the fog and the cliffs above. The surfer Mason Molnar caught a wave coming right at me and I was able to compose this shot as he passed me by. Luckily he is a really good surfer and was able to run to the nose to get on a nice nose ride (where the surfers feet are on the nose of the surfboard) all right in front of me as I let the shutter rip!Lighting
As explained earlier, the lighting was unique and perfect in my opinion for that shot. It was really foggy ten minutes before the shot, then all of a sudden the sun creeped through the cliffs and started to burn away the fog and produced some really nice lighting for this shot with nice bokeh.Equipment
I used a Sony A6500 with a Sony 35mm 1.8 lens, an SPL water housing with pistol grip, DaFin Hawaii fins, and a Cyber wetsuit.Inspiration
I have seen other similar shots to this where the surfer's feet are the subject of the photo and I really enjoy those. I have tried several times to get a shot like that and this is by far my favorite one.Editing
Yes, I just adjust lighting and contrast etc. in Adobe Lightroom and some cropping. In my camera bag
Sony A6500 and Sony 35mm 1.8 and a water housing are my go to for shooting in the waterFeedback
Shoot good surfers! haha might be self explanatory but it is so much easier to get good shots when shooting quality subjects.
