Location
The photo was taken on an early winter morning on lake Bled in Slovenia.Time
I got there and it was still dark, the weather forecast was promising and I hoped for some great sunrise photos. But it was not to be, there was a constant drizzle and I was very happy to have taken this photo some time into the morning when the rain drizzle had subdued.Lighting
The light was fairly even, the cloud cover acted as a diffusor.Equipment
I used my trusted Nikon D700 attached to a tripod and for this photo I opted for my widest lens the Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED at the widest setting and an aperture of f16. Aperture mode with +0.7 exposure compensation. It was a very tight photo to take because I had not much playroom with the composition with various obstacles in the way of getting a clear shot.Inspiration
I love boats, especially wooden, hand crafted boats and seeing these colorful boats and the color contrast to the surrounding I was more than happy to use the opportunity to the full.Editing
The RAW file in itself was very good and the most basic processing was done using lightroom and Viveza from the NIK collection to bring out the structure and details in the wooden boats. In my camera bag
I carry two cameras a Nikon D800 and D700. The lenses in my bag are 24-70mm, 18-35mm, 50mm prime and a 100mm macro lens. A polariser and a ND1000 photo filter. The Hoya Pro polariser was used in this photo. I always carry my tripod with me regardless of the time of day.Feedback
This is a famous travel spot and I usually plan to get to such places very early before dawn. This gives me a time frame where there are not to many people and the light is perfect. In this way I get to take night photos and sunrise photos, and Lake Bled in the early morning promises a great mood and atmosphere regardless of the season.
