Location
I took this picture in Plymouth (UK) in my neighbourhood near Mutley.Time
I remember walking home after swimming practice in the morning around 10 am and seeing this house, which I walk past every day, in this beautiful light. So I ran back home, grabbed my camera and walked back to this terrace house. Luckily this beautiful car was parked in front of it and worked a treat for the composition and colours.Lighting
The morning light casts a beautiful longer shadow onto the building which makes the photo look more 3D and more interesting.Equipment
I took this picture with my Canon M50 and a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. Handheld.Inspiration
I walked past this building every single day for about 1,5 years and I always found it intriguing because of its bold colours. And I told myself if I should find it in the right light and with this particular car parked in front of it (which is rarely) then I´ll get my camera and take a picture of it. And one day it all came together and it worked.Editing
That´s the beauty of it. There wasn´t much to do in post-processing. I lifted the shadows slightly and pushed the situation of the yellow a tad but that was it.In my camera bag
I usually travel really light to nor restrict myself, which means I have my Canon M50 and my favourite lens, the Canon 50mm with me. Nothing more. If I know I want to take "more serious" pictures or when it gets darker I pack my Canon 6D MII and a tripod. I find that the self-imposed restrictions pushes my creativity!Feedback
For this particular shot, I wanted to incorporate the cherry tree which stands opposite the house to give it more context and a natural feel. For this, I stood directly under the tree and made sure a branch is tangling into the frame. For general advice, I´d recommend you work with the whole environment of the building to give it context and a certain depth of field (branch as a foreground)
