I have always wanted to see this amazing piece of architecture by Antonin Gaudi, which is a homage to the Holy Family (La Sagrada Familia) so I booked an early fast-track tour at 11am in order to get the best lighting with the most sunlight coming into the building through the stained glass windows and other openings designed to bring in nothing but natural light. Construction began in March 1882 and this incredible project is still under construction and it is not expected to be completed until 2026. It has been described as "the most extraordinary personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages" and it does not disappoint. I spent 4 hours there not just taking photos but being immersed in the spectacular beauty of this incredible place.Lighting
All lighting is natural, and I chose to be there at 11am to get the maximum natural light, which is my preferred lighting for photography. At midday the strongest light comes through the stained glass windows and also casts prisms and reflections in rainbow colors inside.I stayed inside from 11am until 3pm and the lighting did change during that time, which afforded me many other alternative shots.Equipment
Canon Rebel, 18-135mm lens, hand held, no flash.Inspiration
I was inspired by the incredible unique majesty of this place, which I have always wanted to see. I planned my trip to Barcelona to see this amazing architecture on my birthday! The Sagrada Familia is inspiration in itself. I highly recommend it once we can all travel again.Editing
I do very minimal post processing in Lightroom, which usually includes cropping and adjustments for color and definition. I do not use Photoshop. In my camera bag
Usually I have 2 Canon camera bodies and my i-phone (for posting images on Instagram and Facebook) My most used lens is a Canon 18-135mm zoom lens and sometimes a 70-400mm lens (wildlife etc.). Extra SD cards, extra batteries, lens hoods, UV filter (always on), cleaning kit. Sometimes a tripod, but I prefer to travel light!Feedback
Plan ahead for something like going to these popular, famous locations. Early fast track is worth the extra money because it is less crowded, and consider the weather and the natural lighting available. Above all, have fun!
