Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in a park near my house. Before the virus scare the city would hold a monthly evening Farmers Market with live music, at one last summer they also had the fire department come out and create a makeshift 'water park' with one of the hook and ladder fire trucks - the kids appeared to be enjoying themselves!

Time

This was taken very close to sunset - the sun is visible in the shot near the power lines directly in line with the water spary

Lighting

Light was very difficult to manage in this shot, I was shooting directly into the sun - I tried to use the spray to block some of it

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon 80D and Sigma 18-300mm lens

Inspiration

Between the live music and other attractions at the events, I always carry a camera to see what I can capture!

Editing

This was processed using Lightroom. It was a difficult shot to manage with the sun directly in front of me

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 80D with a Sigma 18/300mm mounted, and/or a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses if I'm looking to shoot something specific, ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't plan shots beforehand - I'm a pretty impromptu/opportunistic photographer. I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 18-300mm Sigma though, a superzoom's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

If you have to shoot directly into the sun, try and find something to shade it a bit (I used the spray in this shot)
