The Tongariro Crossing is a 20 km. one day hike in Central North Island, New Zealand. It takes you through volcanos, craters, old lava flows and steaming vents, with some snow thrown in during winter time. It is often referred to as "The best one day hike in New Zealand". I fully agree with that.
