My wife and I went to Brooklyn, NY for the first time and in the matter of 4 hours it went from beautiful conditions to down pouring rain with lightening all around us (wish I caught a bolt) to back to being beautiful. As soon as the sky opened up, the boardwalk cleared and I was able to get the composition I wanted. It was not easy battling the elements but thanks to the help from my wife, I was able to get an image I was happy with.

Location
This image was taken in Brooklyn, NY by Jane's Carousel.Time
This image was taken right around 6pm. My wife and I had just arrived in Brooklyn and this was our first trip there. It was beautiful out and once we got parked, we started heading to this location. I had scoured Google maps in the days previous to find a spot where I wanted to head and I was excited to try and capture the composition I had in my mind. As we walked up to the carousel the sky became very dark and in a matter of moments, it began to down pour. Everyone scattered for shelter except my wife and I. She stood by me holding an umbrella over us while I set up to take this image. I would not have been able to do it without her!Lighting
Natural lighting with cloudy skies.Equipment
This image was taken using my Nikon D5500 and Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 Di VC lens mounted on a Manfrotto MK055 Xpro tripod using a remote shutter release.Inspiration
I have always loved this view from other images I've seen and I wanted to capture one of my own. Initially I was really disappointed because of the rain but after getting the image on my computer, I was happy with the results!Editing
Yes I process all of my images in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I show in RAW and do 95% of my editing in Lightroom. I run through all of my global adjustments as well as selective adjustments like a graduated filter. Then using Photoshop I will clean up the image (remove any distractions) and use a high pass filter for sharpening. In my camera bag
I generally try to carry as much of my gear with me as possible whenever I go out shooting. I like having lens options with me as well as back up batteries etc. I would rather be prepared and lug it all around than wish I had brought it with me.Feedback
With anything I shoot, I try to determine what I am after. Whether it is the composition or a small detail, I try to get a vision ahead of time. This does not always plan out but that is ok. Have fun and keep going out. You can photograph the same location 10 times and get very different images!
