This was taken in the Texas High Plains, somewhere in extreme northwest Texas panhandle in the United States.Time
This was taken in the evening hoursLighting
Hard because the storm was positioned in front of the low sun angle. This meant I had to aim my camera straight at the sun! I was lucky enough that the bright sun was behind rain curtains.Equipment
Canon T5i 18-55mm lens, hand-shotInspiration
I love the feeling of large spaces that the Great Plains give you. I tried to capture this with the winds blowing toward the storm and focusing on the sky. The post on the bottom right to me really directs the viewer toward the sky, which works well to be included here.Editing
Yes, some simple HDR, clarity/saturation/contrast boostIn my camera bag
Usually have a telephoto zoom lens, extra batteries/chargers, shutter release trigger, nothing too fancyFeedback
Well the best advice is learn forecasting. You cannot view scenes like these if you don't know what the weather is going to do! Sure, you can get lucky and capture this near your home, but if you are actively searching for scenes like these, you need to be able to accurately predict what the weather will do in the future. You may be the best photographer in the world, but if you can't find a storm, you won't be able to photograph them.
