Location
This photo was taken in a back trail during a empowerment photoshoot. The subject of the image wanted to celebrate an incredible come back from a short-lived mariage, that was broken because of the infidelity of her then-husband.Time
This photo was taken mid-afternoon, it had just drizzled a slight rain that make everything look moody.Lighting
It was covered because of trees and simply a big of light was shining through the leaves as the day was overcast.Equipment
I handheld my Canon 6D Mark II with an 85mm f/1.2. I didn’t have any other equipment on hand.Inspiration
Seeing my friend rise from the ashes of a burned down mariage inspired me to do the take on the smoke. I wanted to incorporate the smoke with the idea of letting go; inhale, exhale. All these elements combined inspired the final product.Editing
Always! In Lightroom using a self-made presets with some slight tweaks to color composition and light also.In my camera bag
I always carry my 6D Mark II with my 35mm f2, my 50mm f1.4 & my 85mm f1.2. I have other lenses but these are my go to.Feedback
Capture something authentic. Something you will look back on and you will be able to remember the mood of the moment, the smell, the way you felt. Capturing authenticity is so much more important that having the perfect composition.
