I was helping my son pack up his house in Melbourne, Australia, ready for the move to the new one, and from the kitchen window I could see a field of red capped mushrooms under the pine trees.Time
It was about 9am in the morning... sun was up, but with the heavy tree canopy there was great filtered light coming through the treesLighting
I wanted to get low, on the same level as the mushrooms, and lying on my stomach I shimmied around till I got an angle with the sunlight illuminating the mushroomEquipment
I took this on my 'old' Canon 450D, with the 18-55 kit lens ...Inspiration
I loved the colour of the mushrooms, and wanted to show it from a 'faerie' or insect POV, not looking down like a tall humanEditing
It was shot in jpeg and then I brought the saturation up and opened up the shadows a bit moreIn my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon 6D, and my go to lens is a Canon 24-105L F4. I love the sharpeness of the lens and the ability to get lovely bokeh. I also always have the Canon 100-400L with me and have just added a Canon 17-40 which is great for landscapes and astro.Feedback
The mushrooms open their caps literally overnight and by the next day they are either rain or animal damaged. You need to get them just opened... I saw the mushrooms, picked out a few for the next day that were just starting to open, and came back next morning with the camera and got this one fresh and undamaged
