Behind The Lens

Location

This photo of the mother walking in front of her cub was taken while on safari in the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in India. I was in an open jeep, and the tigress was on a raised bit of land, thus giving me the eye to eye perspective.

Time

This image was created in the morning during the summers.

Lighting

The light was slightly harsh at this time of the day, but I knew the kind of edit I wanted.

Equipment

This image was shot on a Nikon D4S with a Nikkor 200-500mm @ 200mm.

Inspiration

I have always wanted to make an image of a big at at eye level, this was the perfect chance, I quite liked the slight snarl, the eye contact and the pose.

Editing

I usually keep my post processing to adjusting the basics, exposure, colours and sharpness and finally converted the image to black and white.

In my camera bag

When out photographing I usually have the following gear in my bag: Camera: Nikon D4s, Nikon Z7 Lens: Nikkor 600mm F4, Nikkor 200-500mm, Nikkor 24-70mm F4 S Sandisk CF card, Sony & Lexar XQD cards & card reader RaincoatPro by Lenscoat 15" Macbook Pro Seagate 4TB external/portable HDD Tripod: Gitzo tripod + ball head Bag: Wulfpro K9 32L camera bag

Feedback

In the wild, perfect eye contact with your subject can take that image up a notch. Always look out for such moments.
