Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my property in southeastern Ohio. As I remember, I was taking my dog out for a walk on a hot July afternoon, and I saw him or her (how do you tell the gender?) hanging on the barbed wire fence. I had to look twice to make sure of what I was seeing!

Time

i believe it was around 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon. It was the hottest part of the day, but fast approaching evening.

Lighting

There is nothing special about the lighting on this. I was more worried about capturing his little ears and nose along with all his facinating features up close!!

Equipment

I used my Canon Rebel T-5 with a 50mm lens.

Inspiration

Just to see such a gift of this little creature hanging in my own back yard by the barn was all the inspiration I needed! I prayed all the way back & forth from the house that he would still be there! Thankfully he stuck around for his photo shoot!

Editing

I cropped and sharpened this a little, along with tweaking the contrast & saturation. Then I added a light vinette & frame to help draw the eye back to the subject since the sky behind him was washed out and a bit stark.

In my camera bag

My camera bag is full of lenses, accessories, battery charger, etc. Anything I think I might need. But it is getting quite crowded in there!

Feedback

My only advice is to always be ready for photo opps, & don't be afraid to try different angles or body contortions to get the perfect shot! You never know when you might see a bat hanging on your fence!!!????
