This photo was taken inside INHOTIM INSTITUTE, a huge open air museum and planned garden. It’s located at Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, Brasil. INHOTIM holds permanent artistic installations and also temporary expositions, all this amongst beautiful gardens made of a great variety of native species. Inhotim was planned by the internationally known landscape architect and architect Burle Marx. https://www.inhotim.org.br/Time
I took the photo in the middle of a morning in July 2019, during a tour with my Air Force officers class. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary of joining the Air Force. Since we came together to celebrate this date, we have chosen to meet in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, where the military institution that formed us is located. Visiting the Inhotim Institute is a must and our favorite place for group outingsLighting
In nature and landscape photos, climate, light and weather are extremely volatile. Once you have decided on a scenario / climate, be prepared to spend time until you find the ideal conditions. It can last from minutes to days. Don't be afraid to shoot as much as necessary. Above all, plan the desired result and the technique you will use. It is worth it!Equipment
This photo was shot with an iPhone 6 settings: Aperture f/2.2?ISO 32?Shutter 1/306?Focal Length 83/20?I didn’t use any accessory other than my eye and I had to be quick because the light kept changing. I believe that some minutes later it wouldn’t have the same impact.Inspiration
We, my group and I, were walking among the plants of the Inhotim Institute, when I saw this lake and the shade of the vegetation around it. Because of the angle of incidence of the light and the variance of greens and yellows contrasting with the green water, this reminded me of an autumnal landscape of the northern hemisphere of the planet. instinctively I pointed and shot the photo.Editing
As I don't have specific skills with image processing software, I just improved the sharpness, saturation, brightness and contrast, using the IPhone 6's own photo editor. In my camera bag
I usually have my Iphone at hand. But I prefer to shoot with the Cannon EOS Rebel T3i and a 50mm lens or a 75-300. A few years ago, I basically used a semi-professional Cannon AE1, with 50mm and 75-300 lenses. But films, especially Kodachrome, left the market, unfortunately, so I started to venture into the digital world. At first I used a Nokia N95 with a Zeiss lens. Needless to say that this was the best lens I had at hand for a quick shot.Feedback
I've always had a preference for photographing landscapes. I thought that capturing people's souls was something that I wouldn't do well. Since I was a child I am self-taught. I started experimenting with improvising scenarios and lighting inside my house, burning many films, always using an old Yashika as an instrument. I never attended a formal course, but I always read many technical books on photography. And with each technique shown, I tried to reproduce it at home, with the equipment I had. My advice for those who want to dedicate themselves is: study hard, practice even more. And always keep in mind that whether you photograph people, landscapes or textures, planning, patience and a dose of luck are necessary.
