Location
The photo was taken on the top of cliff overlooking the Story Bridge in Brisbane Queensland. A great vantage point to witness the spectacle of an F111 jet fighter make its pass over the city, while at the same time doing a drop and burn!Time
This was taken about 7.20pm on a Saturday evening, just prior to a Riverfire Festival fire works display over the City of Brisbane, Queensland.Lighting
Relied totally on the city lights burning and the outline of the bridge lighting for focal points. Due to the limited lighting, a delayed shutter speed of 6 sec was utilised at f9.0: ISO of 100. Image was actually captured with a finger press on the camera at precisely the time the dump of jet fuel began to erupt over the city.Equipment
Camera 5D MkII with tripod. Lens was a EF 24-105 F/4 l IS USM. No flash used for this shot.Inspiration
This was the last occasion the F111 would do the fly over for this annual festival in Brisbane. Following the Riverfire Festival this year, the fighter jet was decommissioned and never to fly again. Such a shame as this was a very special spectacle for crowds attending this fantastic event!Editing
Very limited and simple processing in LR. Additional contrast and clarity added to the image, together with adjustments to highlights and shadows to bring out the special features of the event. In my camera bag
I strive to carry my favourite 24-70mm L series Canon lens. Upgraded the 24-105 which captured this image over Brisbane. In addition, I enjoy using my 16 - 35mm and 70 - 200mm L Series lens also.Feedback
Must have a tripod for capturing fireworks displays. Vary the delayed shutter speed and get a variety of effects when doing this sort of shoot. Slow release attachment most valuable also. Low ISO for sharpness in capture also brings out the best in your photos.
