Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the garden of a friend's house in Lecce, Puglia, Italy

Time

John Noone, one of our photographers, was on vacation in a friend's house and they were in the garden chatting, he wasn't there to take pictures, but that lily attracted his attention, he hit him, he called him. He had only his smartphone with him, and so he took the moment without worrying about the equipment, he just wanted to capture the moment. The photo was taken at 7:This was shot on 30 PM on July 19, 2019

Lighting

The light of the hour in which the photo was taken, 7:30 PM, in summer, is the one we prefer because it gives an intensity to the colors, without burning them. In this case it gives an expressive charge to the photo which adds a sort of dramatic plasticity.

Equipment

This was shot on ASUS Z017D. Aperture f/0, ISO 50, Shutter 1/158 sec., Focal Length 4,0 mm.

Inspiration

This photo comes from passion, curiosity, from the desire to discover. We are carrying out a study on the gardens, those small home spaces where people show their love for nature, through caring for their plants, those they take care of every day, as if it were a subject of their family . We therefore asked friends, relatives and simple acquaintances to open the doors of their houses to photograph flowers and plants that populate their houses and their lives. All this was done through our passion for Monet, where flowers and nature came to life in his paintings. But in this photo there is also the passion for Japan, its culture and its floral art.

Editing

The photo was processed in post-production by our technicians, directly on the jpg file, with GIMP, with few adjustments on the saturation of the cyan and magenta colours, without retouching anything else.

In my camera bag

Currently our road and travel equipment includes: Canon EOS 1000D with EF-S 18-55mm lens, Panasonic Lumix G7 with Standard Lumix 18-55 lenses and a Samyang 24 mm f1.5, Asus and Xiaomi smartphones, Gimbal DJI OsmoMobile 2 , Hama Star 61e Cayer 64 inch BV30 camcorder tripod, Hama Star 78 monopod, and DJI Mavic Air 2 drone. For post-production we use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe LIghtroom, GIMP, Darktable and RawTherapee.

Feedback

Nature and its colors are subjects that we find in our photos. The light we prefer is that of sunrise or sunset. We are struck by the colors and atmospheres. Sometimes we plan others instead we seize the moment. We like playing with light and colors, the rest is only in the eyes that look. We are a collective of photographers who started 3 years ago on collaborative photographic projects. Starting from the question of what could be achieved by using semi-professional or low-cost cameras, without going after the latest model, and mid-range smartphones, for two years we have been carrying out a project: We go around the world taking photos with equipment that anyone could have and use. So we want to demonstrate that photography, understood as art and passion, is in the eye of the photographer, in his sensitivity, it is not in the camera model.
