This shot was taken at Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma along the banks of the Mountain Fork River on an exceedingly foggy morning just before sunrise.Time
Just at sunrise, the heavy fog kept everything in a very moody appearance, but there was enough light to start to pick up shapes in the treeline on the opposite shoreLighting
All natural lighting, nothing artificial.Equipment
This was my first outing with my brand new at the time 5DmkIV, I also had my 5Dsr with me, but the light wasn't quite high enough yet to use it, and I had my longer 70-200F4L on the mk4, so that's what I shot with to get the focal length I wanted.Inspiration
This is one of my favorite spots in the park to shoot. I've captured these clumps of trees in many different conditions, at many times of the year. My good friend and shooting partner Elizabeth has an amazing shot here that inspired me to first come here years ago. On this morning the fog was extremely thick, but also completely calm, making for ideal conditions for a moody shot with rich cool tones.Editing
Editing in Lightroom and Photoshop as my usual process for my landscape photography. Color toning and contrast work to get just a hint of detail on the trees up front, but continue to enhance the feeling of moody fog and depth within the image. In my camera bag
I shoot a variety of Canon cameras and lenses. My kit also relies heavily on the fantastic Breakthrough X4 series of ND and CPL filters. I started out shooting Canon, and to date I've yet to see a reason for me to jump ship.Feedback
This was early April, but I've seen a variety of amazing conditions in his area year-round. When it comes to fog, you can try to forecast it, but it can vary so much from one part of the park to another that it's almost impossible. So my advice, don't sleep in, even if it looks like the weather is awful, you never know what you'll capture.
