Behind The Lens

Location

Estrella was sitting on top of the spare mattress stored in the outside kitchen, supervising the food preparation.

Time

It was taken an hour after dark, with only the kitchen light for illumination and my little torch

Lighting

See above. I don't like to flash at kittens or cats, they hate it.

Equipment

My trusted D4 , a Sigma 85 1.4 (the old one) and quick action

Inspiration

There was a challenge for black animals against a black background. Well I had lots of shots of her ory late black tomcat Fafnir, even more now, but all against garden green, in my bright living room or a tree. So I decided to wait for an opportunity in the dark kitchen.

Editing

The background is dark brown wood. Darkened the reds and the bkacks in general and did a bit of LR de-noise

In my camera bag

A D4 and anything from a 12mm Venus to an old MF 300m Tamron with TC. Obviously, if it's night I will pack the 85 1.4, a 1974 55mm 1.2, an equally vintage 28 f2 and a 18mm 3.5 to shoot the night sky ( better than you think)

Feedback

Know cats and their behaviour to have good eye contact. Attract their curiousity and don't flash.
