Location
I took this photo in the countryside in Northern Ireland.Time
I love this image. It was taken at about 6pm on a hot summer's evening in July 2018.Lighting
This image was taken with natural lighting just as the sun was starting to go down and I feel it really captured the beauty of the horse, especially it's eyes.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS1200d with a 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I had been noticing the horse for a few weeks before I took the image. It was extremely inquisitive and kept approaching the gate to the field and looking for me to feed it so I built a connection with it before I brought my camera and captured the image of it looking out onto the road.Editing
This image is completely unedited. I felt that the natural light and composition was effective enough that I didn't need to process it on the likes of Photoshop or Lightroom. In my camera bag
I usually have the Canon 1200d camera body, two macro lens (75mm-300mm) and a standard lens (18-55mm). I also have an external flash gun with filters, back up batteries and memory cards and also equipment to clean my lenses after each photoshoot.Feedback
Patience is key. There is no way of knowing if the horse will actually comply and stand still until you get the image. If you don't get it the first time, don't worry, you will eventually. It is also helpful if horses get to know you first before you put your camera in front of it's face.
