Location
I took this photo while on a walk around Chinamans Island at Yarrawonga Vic. Have tried to get ther on a number of occasions to grab Wildlife photos as well as some Landscapes. I am always amazed at what species of birds I fins while I walk around the walkway - Tawny Frogmouths, Silver Eyes, Wrens, Kingfishers, Reed Warblers.........
Time
Well, on this occasion we went to the Island walk to see if we could find the Frogmouths that were around at the time but just as we got to the 'pool' at the beginning of the walk, I spotted this lovely kingfisher. We tried to get different angles while not disturbing it. I think we were lucky that it hung around for us to grab a couple of photos like this one.
Lighting
I think from the number of photos that I took of the Kingfisher, this was probably the best. Why you ask - well I am glad you did ask - I had the angle right and also was able to separate the bird from anything distracting from the background so your eye is drawn to the bird. I do believe that the 'viewer' of photos needs to look at what you are trying to show but also not look at anything else so keep in mind what else is oin your shot to see if you need to take from a different angle (well if you can that is lol)
Equipment
I took this with my Canon 6D with my Sigma 50-500 mm lens. This is my goto equipment as it allows me to get landscapes as well as close p of wildlife without getting too close to scare of the animal. Most animals don't really like us humans to get too close unless they habve been traind to do so.

Inspiration
Surprisingly I didn't plan this photo but it was just there. That shows you that you do need to be at the righ place at the right time - AND always have a camera with you. My cameras are with me all the time (well not when I am sleeping but if you ask my wife....) so I am able to get a photo when I see it. I do plan some of my landscapes as I 'see' what I think would look good and then need to get there when the time is right.
Editing
For wildlife, not much at all. I do like to vignette the bird so you look at the bird and in most cases, the background is just a filler as such. It is cropped (well mainly because I could get too close without scaring it away).
In my camera bag
Well, I have 3 cameras with me when I am out with different lenes, Canon 6D with 50-500mm sigma Lens, Canon 6D with Sigma 24-74mm and my Canon7D with Tamron 10-24mm lens. These are so I can grab a camera for what I am looking to grab a photo of. I also have an old Canon 450D which has been 'converted' to allow me to grab Infra Red photos ( don't do a lot of that but it is an interesting field of photography). Also have some 360deg Cameras as well as a few Drones.
Feedback
Mainly, keep your camera handy and even while walking around your area, look for anything that grabs your eye. Everyone takes great photos so you need to make sure you grab your next great shot.
