It's a self protrait, wich I took while spending a night in moutains of Gran Canaria. The chellange here was to run to the place where I stand during 10s timer because my remote control didn't want to work.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was captured in Parque Rural del Nublo on Gran Canaria Island.
Time
I arrived at the location after a short hike before sunset. I spend around an hour scouting for composition when I found this cave. I really liked the view so I decided to set up my tripod there. It was quite challenging because the cave is quite shallow so it required a lot of creative thinking.
Lighting
This image is a composite, To capture all details of the mountains and the cave I took the first exposure during the blue hour. Afterward, I took an exposure of me standing on the ridge, which was quite challenging because my remote control failed so I had only 10 seconds to run/climb to a spot where I stand on the picture, I also used my phone torch to highlight my silhouette. Finally, I took the exposure of the Milkyway when it became fully visible. To sum up I spent around 6 hours at the location.
Equipment
This shot was taken with Sony A7 mk1, Sony G 12mm F4 and a tripod.
Inspiration
Everything started when I visited Gran Canaria a few months earlier. The place which is close to the spot I took the picture from was recommended to me by my friend as a very nice sunset spot. After the sunset, I stayed a bit longer and then I realized how good this spot was for astrophotography. However, because photography was not my primary goal during the first visit I didn't have my tripod with me... I knew that I have to come back prepared, and so I did a few months later when I captured this photo.
Editing
I followed my usual flow for astrophotography. On the top of usually Lightroom adjustments, I blended multiple exposures to show details of the valley and mountains. I also used photo stacking to remove noise from the picture of the sky which was taken with ISO higher than the rest of the frames.
In my camera bag
My favorite piece of equipment is my ultra-wide Sony 12-24mm F4 which I use with my Sony A7, I also often take with me Sony 24-105 F4. I also carry small and light travel tripod and a set of spare batteries and a torch. Because I hike a lot I often restrain myself to single or maximum a pair of lenses.
Feedback
Find a place with very little light pollution and prepare upfront. Research about the visibility of the Milkyway and moon position. Moonlight can make the photography of the Milkyway very hard or even impossible. Be at the spot earlier, so ideally, you can set up the composition while still using daylight. Then take multiple shots while the light is changing. It will allow you to show all of the beautiful elements of the landscape and enclose a more complete experience in a single photo.
