Behind The Lens

Location
I made this shot in my kitchen. I often make delicious and beautiful food, and I like to use daylight that comes through my kitchen window to paint the feeling I have when making the food.
Time
I usually shoot during morning hours, up until noon, because that's when I get the best light in my kitchen.
Lighting
I used daylight, softened with a light curtain, and reflected on the other side with any reflective surface I have on hand.
Equipment
I used Nikon D750, with 105mm macro lens. I shot from a tripod.
Inspiration
I love making food, it's a form of art for me. And when I'm finished, I find it a bit sad to just eat it, so I just make a photo of it, to make it eternal. That particular morning was my birthday, and these were the mini cakes I made for my husband and me to enjoy. I loved the way they looked in warm sunlight, so I decided to snap a picture before they disappeared :)
Editing
I usually only do light correction in post-processing, I like to make my food look and feel exactly like it did in real life.
In my camera bag
I usually have my Nikons D3300 and D750, and lenses 50mm, 105 mm and a kit 18-55 mm for D3300 and lens hoods for all of them. I also take my tripod with me. Cleaning equipment is a must wherever I go because you never know what can happen. Rain covers if I'm shooting outside, and food styling equipment if I'm shooting food. And that's mostly it :)
Feedback
Try to capture the feeling the meal gives you. Is it a warm day? What's the weather like? Does it make you happy? Does it bring up memories? Depending on the mood you'd like to convey you choose props, colours, textures,... Your goal is that the viewer sees the photo, and feels just the same as you do.
