Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Vancouver Island, in a small clearing were Camas (kwetlal in Lekwungen) still grow. Up to about 150 years ago, these native flowers were once staple food (the bulb) for First Nations people who cultivated them in local fields around Victoria.

Time

This was taken in the morning.

Lighting

It was a very soft lighting and I loved the subtle greens, blues and yellows.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Canon 5DSR and a 135mm f1.8 Sigma lens, handheld.

Inspiration

I had seen these flowers many times over the years and not taken a satisfying picture. It was also a perfect opportunity to test my new 135mm lens and I loved the results

Editing

I liked it the way it was so did not do any post-processing.

In my camera bag

I have now switched to Sony and the equipment varies a lot, depending on what I am shooting; wildlife and I will take the Sony a1 and the A9 with the 200-600mm zoom. Otherwise it could be any other lenses, the Sony 24mm f1.4, 16-35mm f2.8 GM, 70-200mm f2.8 GM, 135mm f1.8 GM, 90mm f2.8 macro, the 1.4x and 2x tele-extenders, and a few other previous Sigma and Canon lenses with the MC11 adapter. Gitzo tripod.
