Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Taipei City Taiwan. The city has a number stunning architectural designs and this new building is definitely one of them.

Time

This image was actually taken at night. I went to take sunset photos but I wasn't really able to catch the dramatic color I wanted because of cloud cover. So I stuck around for some night photos which was lucky because the surrounding buildings out off a lot of warm light.

Lighting

To achieve this lighting I used the warm lights of the surrounding buildings coupled with a long exposure. I also set the camera to a warmer white balance.

Equipment

This was shot and a Sony A7ii with Sony 24-105 lens using a mephoto tripod and remote shutter to control the long exposure.

Inspiration

This photo was inspired by emotion. This building is very futuristic and almost looks like it belongs in another time. I wanted to capture that feeling of awe.

Editing

Yes. There isn't a lot of post-processing one on this image. Mostly basic adjustments in Lightroom like exposure, contrast, and some dehazing. Then Photoshop was used to heal some flares in the image.

In my camera bag

Most of my work is done on the go so I carry minimal equipment. I always have my A7ii with 24-105 lens. I carry a lightweight mephoto travel tripod, a 10 stop ND filter, wireless trigger, and a few batteries

Feedback

My best advice is give yourself time. It takes time to set up, time to frame and envision the image, and most importantly time to experiment. Move around a scene and try different settings. Lastly, don't forget to play with white balance settings.
