Heading out to the West Country from Christchurch (NZ) along highway 73, I discovered pure gold. This is Lake Pearson, small in comparison to many of the lakes on the South Island....but one of the most beautiful and shaped like an hourglass. The cloud was quite low and slow moving allowing light to filter through, highlighting the Autumn golds of the trees and grasses. Up further (Arthur's Pass) was another magical surprise...snow on the ground with a coffee van parked right in the middle. Damn fine coffee by the way!!
