Location
This photo was taken near the famous Brooklyn Dumbo Pier, step to the north of it.Time
This was taken about Midnight on late spring evening, just after a humid rain.Lighting
New York City always has perfect lighting, but the humid rains brought a lot of reflective qualities to the sky. It really enabled less contrast to showcase the entire mood of the scene.Equipment
This photo was made possible with my Olympus E-M1mark2 due to the in-body stabilization. I had to crouch ever so slightly along the edge of the rainwash against a railing and be sure to keep still to keep from the puddle being agitated.Inspiration
Everyone has seen the shot from the pier a few feet away.Editing
Minor post processing in lightroom and photoshop. In my camera bag
I use both Nikon and Olympus. D850 and EM1-Mark2. Lenses for Nikon 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 plus a 50mm 1.8 prime. Olympus I use 12-40 2.8, 40-150 2.8, 300mm f4 and a 60mm MacroFeedback
My favorite tip for photographing the popular photo spots is to simply walk around the popular area slowly and look for angles or viewpoints that are just as lovely but maybe less trafficked. Don't ignore the beautiful composition, but find a way also to put a little bit of a spin of your own. There is a reason why it is photogenic, but then you also have a unique image as well!
