Location
I shot this photo in a hotel room, where the model stayed.Time
We took this image quite late in the evening, around 8:30 pm in March. It was already dark outside and just using artificial light made this image possible.Lighting
We moved the bed aside and used the led reading light, mounted to the bed head, to light the scene. The warm white light from the led created the special mood of the image.Equipment
I used my good old Canon 5D Mark 3 with a Canon EF 24-105/4L IS to take this picture. As one led light was the only light source I cranked the ISO up to 800 and shot at 1/100s with F4 at 105mm focal length handheld.Inspiration
The ambient light combined with the blond hair and the beautiful model inspired me to shoot some portraits. I am framing my portraits quite tight and in-camera, and as we were working on some images for a magazine publication, her moody look made me taking this image.Editing
All post-processing is done in Capture One. This image has a tiny bit of clarity added, some vignetting, a touch of film grain and some slight colour grading with warm highlights and mid-tones and cold shadows. In my camera bag
Usually, I work with my Pentax 645z medium format camera using a bunch of prime lenses from 35mm to 200mm focal length. As the Pentax has never failed, I meanwhile just take a Canon EOS M with a 18-55mm zoom as a fallback with me. The little Canon is also quite handy when you want a small camera for a trip into the city. However, I put my Canon 5D3 in the bag for this shoot, and I didn't regret it.Feedback
It's important to find the perfect angle to catch an image like this. Try to figure out the best angle for the light and your camera position. Working with an experienced model helps a lot. They are usually able to pose exactly the way that's needed.
