The photo was taken at an artists work place just off the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai. Being a complete novice at photography I try to learn from the shots I take and gain the experience from the numerous mistakes I make along the way.Time
This photo has got to be one of my favourite shots of a drawing that I have taken. I was walking one evening around the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai when I saw this and many other drawings by this and many other street artists and knew I had to get a shot of the drawings. I was granted permission to take a series of shots by the artist, whereupon this became one of the best shots I have ever taken. All I can remember when taking this shot it was in the evening.Lighting
While I looked at the picture I decided that I did not want a direct light onto the picture so we used the florescent lighting from the shop that was placed a few feet above and to the front of the picture, thus giving this picture the texture that Is seen. I little Lightroom was used to enhance the lighting but only just slightly so as not to drown out the drawing.Equipment
I shot this picture with one of my older cameras, a Nikon 5300 and used a standard Nikon 50mm lens. I didn't have a tripod with me so with the help of some sturdy boxes I rested the camer on them to take the shot. I have to admit that it took around 15 shots before I got the perfect shot.Inspiration
The drawing is open to many interpretations depending on how you are feeling and what you are seeing at any given time. When I saw this picture I saw peace and tranquility between human and animal, and felt it was something I needed after a hard day of teaching at a school here in Chiang Mai.Editing
As I mentioned earlier I used a little Lightroom to enhance the lighting. In my camera bag
Sometimes I go way over the top ( which is nearly all the time when I go out and about), I take my number one camera which is the Nikon D850 which usually has the Sigma DC 17-50mm 1:2.8 attached to it, also I take my Nikon D7200 which has the Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 DG Macro HSM lens attached. As a backup camera I also take the Nikon D5200. I also have in the bag a Sigma 105 - 600mm 1.5-6.3 DG Zoom which has been a brilliant tool for me on many occasions. As you may have noticed I only use Sigma lenses, and this is due to cost but have found that I can get some excellent pictures with these lenses. I also have two Cullmann Revomax 535 tripods which are a little on the heavy side but very sturdy and durable in many different situations.Feedback
Just as a Viewbug member "Macnuel" , mentioned when he said that Chile has many different characteristics when it comes to landscape photography, the same applies to Thailand. Depending on the time of year it is either very wet, hot or very hot and nothing much in-between. There are some mind blowing places to take pictures within Thailand but most of them can be found either before/after dawn or just before dusk when the temperature is perfect. For landscape photography planning, preparation and patience are the key. Taking similar shots as to what I have done here, the key is to communicate with the artist , smile and get permission. Most artists don't mind you taking a picture if you have asked first. Keep on having fun.
