Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in the garden that was outside where my daughter was having her Girl Scouts meeting.

Time

The pictures was taken mid morning. It was a bright sunny day without any cloud cover. In Southern California, this is a common outdoor lighting situation.

Lighting

I’ve been practicing macro shots and this garden had a bunch of bees buzzing around. I spent about an hour trying to track them and getting very frustrated. I was lucking to capture this one.

Equipment

This picture was taken with my Nikon D500 and the micro 105mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I’ve been working my macro shots and I took the opportunity of the garden, ample light and an abundance of bees presented.

Editing

Post processing was done in Lightroom. Adjustments included lighting, shadows, highlights, colors and cropping.

In my camera bag

I always have my D500 with me. Most of the time I have my Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8. If I’m going wildlife shooting, I’ll trade the 24-70 for the 200-500 5.6mm.

Feedback

Patience is the key. Sometimes you don’t realize what you captured until you review the photos during processing. Have fun and keep learning.
